HK: Cluster of Influenza A cases in Caritas Medical Centre

Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

A Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) spokesperson made the following announcement today (May 16):

A total of three children (two male and one female, aged 16-17) of developmental and disabilities unit have presented with respiratory symptoms and fever since May 9.Influenza tests have been arranged and confirmed all of them have been suffering from Influenza A.The concerned patients are being treated under isolation.One of them is in serious condition and the other patients are in stable condition.

Infection control measures have been stepped up according to established guidelines.Admission and activities of children who are staying in the same dormitory have been suspended while visiting arrangement remains normal.All other children as well as staff in the unit are under close surveillance.

CMC has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and Centre for Health Protection.
