3 dead, 20 test positive for swine flu sets city on high alert

Shimla: Three deaths have been reported over the last week and 20 cases confirmed positive due to swine flu. Chief medical officers of all districts have been directed by the health department to stay alert.

Health and family welfare minister Kaul Singh Thakur held a meeting with senior officials on Friday to discuss meethods in dealing with the situation. He said that state government has taken preventive measures to check H1N1 and isolation wards have been set up in all district hospitals.

Health officials are on their toes following a swine flu death and admission of six patients to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in one week.
The patient, who died of swine flu at the IGMC last week, has been identified as Madan (45) from Maloh in Sundernagar.
?Six others ? three from Shimla, one each from Kullu, Mandi and Solan ? have tested positive for H1N1 virus and have been shifted to the isolation ward,? said Dr Ramesh Chand, Senior Medical Superintendent, IGMC.
Three swine flu deaths have been reported since November 2015. The patients were from Mashobra, Sundernagar and Solan, said Dr Rakesh M Bhardwaj, state programme officer.

H1NI toll rise to 4 in HP, 9 tested positive

The H1NI virus toll rose to four in Himachal Pradesh this year, as a woman succumbed to the dreaded virus, health sources said today.

Indra Gandhi Medical College Hospital Senior Medical Officer Ramesh Chand said that a 31year- old woman from Kinnaur district, who was admitted in hospital on Saturday night with symptoms of swine flu, was tested positive for H1N1 virus and succumbed last night.

He said one-year-old child belonged to Totu, outskirt of this capital town, one each patient from Kangra and Sundernagar of Mandi district had been killed to swine flu this year.

Woman dies of swine flu

Sundernagar, March 2
A woman died of swine flu at a Mohali hospital on Monday. The deceased was a resident of Bahot in Sundernagar.
The victim was admitted to the Sundernagar Civil Hospital in the first week of February. Later, she was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali.
The woman (57) was employed with the Education Department and was to retire in April. She is survived by a daughter, a son and husband.
