    • After the containment of the last outbreak, surveillance activities were intensified within the country.
    • During the last three months post-outbreak active clinical surveillance was carried out in 2, 500 households/farms observing around 0.6 million birds.
    • During that period, 1,451 dead birds were collected and tested for avian influenza.
    • All the birds were found negative for HPAI (H5).
    • Based on the passive and active surveillance reports and laboratory verification, Nepal declares itself free from HPAI with effect from 19 December 2013.
