Medical supplies, support equipment and several teams have been deployed to Haiti; these include an International Medical Surgical Response Team, Disaster Medical Assistance Teams and an Incident Response Coordination Team. U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps personnel are serving on the USNS Comfort as part of the medical staff.

HHS Emergency Response in Haiti: Summary Report Get an update on the medical care provided by HHS teams in Haiti and assistance given to citizens returning to the U.S.

Secretary Sebelius Statement on Haitian Children in Pittsburgh HHS has worked over the last several days to unite Haitian children who recently arrived in Pittsburgh with their prospective parents, who had filed for their adoption some time ago and were far along in that process. These children are now all in the care of their new families.

People in Haiti with access to ackee orchards might try to eat the fruit as a result of food scarcity. They should not eat unripe ackee fruit, or certain parts of the ripe fruit, because naturally occurring toxins in them can cause sickness or death.
