Health Department confirms swine flu death

LITTLE ROCK ? State health officials today confirmed another death in Arkansas from complications related to swine flu.

Since last spring, the state Health Department has attributed 30 deaths to H1N1 influenza. A department spokesman said federal law prevented the agency from disclosing details regarding the latest victim, including when the death occurred.

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD>Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper says a 57-year-old died over the weekend of swine flu.

Camper says the man was healthy before he got swine flu.

Ed Barham with the Health Department says there have been 30 deaths since the pandemic started in Arkansas in August.

He says reports of hospitalizations and absenteeism from schools has slowed in recent months, but anyone can still contract the flu.

Barham says most of the deaths have been of people in the 45-64 age group, but he says the illnesses and deaths have occurred in all age ranges.
