ST. PETERSBURG, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Laboratory tests on two hospital patients who died last week from complications of a flu virus currently ravaging the northern Russian city of Murmansk have revealed that the virus belongs to the H1N1 group, commonly referred to as "swine flu", Interfax reported Monday.
Over 8,000 cases of flu were officially reported in Murmansk between Feb. 11 and 17.
Several other deaths from flu complications have been reported in the Moscow and St. Petersburg regions in recent days.
While the overall risk of complications from this latest strain of flu remains low, Russian authorities have encouraged at-risk adults and children to consider vaccination and seek early treatment for flu symptoms.
