Federal Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq says those were the principles which formed the approach she adopted one year ago when the H1N1 flu pandemic arrived on Canada's doorstep, and followed as the crisis unfolded over the following 10 months.
The approach worked, she said: Canada handled the pandemic successfully and is being looked to as a model for other nations who didn't fare as well.
"I think we've done a fantastic job in rolling out the pandemic plan," Aglukkaq said in an interview this past week along with chief public health officer Dr. David Butler-Jones. The two were practically joined at the hip from the point the pandemic broke out in Canada, holding daily press conferences and working long hours to keep on top of the rapidly unfolding situation.
