H1N1 Contributes To Greene Co. Death

GREENE COUNTY, Ohio -- A Greene County woman died and health officials said the H1N1 flu may have contributed to her death.
The 54-year-old woman suffered from several medical conditions, including COPD and pneumonia. After she died, further tests revealed she had the H1N1 virus.
Health experts believed that the virus may have caused complications on top of an already serious medical problem.
Health commissioner Mark McDonnell said, "We're fairly certain the underlying conditions killed her, but the H1N1 did not make things any better and somehow contributed to her death."
McDonnell said the woman had chronic health problems and that she would have been considered high risk and a prime candidate to receive the H1N1 flu vaccine, which she did not apparently get.
The health commissioner is urging everyone to get educated about the H1N1 flu and those in high-risk groups to get vaccinated.
