Influenza A(H1N1): 3 new cases in Johor

Share | KUALA LUMPUR: One influenza-like illness (ILI) cluster involving seven people, including three who tested positive influenza H1N1, has been reported in Johor today.
Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican said all those infected were from Kampung Sari Baru, Pagoh, Muar.

They were admitted to hospital and given anti-viral treatment, he said in a statement here today.


Dr Mohd Ismail said this brought the number of new positive H1N1 cases nationwide to 31 with accumulated cases at 15,050 so far.


However, active cluster ILI cases had reduced to 35 from 40 yesterday. There were 501 ILI patients in hospitals of which only 53 were positive H1N1.

Eight were being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of which six had risk factors. The death toll stood at 88.

KUALA LUMPUR, Wednesday 23 June 2010 (Bernama) -- The number of Influenza A (H1N1) positive cases registered a 31.9% drop last week compared with the previous week, said Director-general of Health Tan Sri Dr Mohd Ismail Merican.

According to a statement from the Health Ministry, last week (June 13-19) 81A(H1N1) positive cases were recorded, compared with 119 the previous week, he said.

"With the 81 new cases, the overall total of A(H1N1) positive cases has increased to 15,152 but no deaths were reported as the total remained at 88," said Dr Ismail in the statement.

He added that during the same period seven Influenza Like Illness (ILI) cluster cases were detected in four states, namely Kedah, Selangor, Johor and Melaka.

The number of ILI cases treated at hospitals throughout the country also dropped from 771 to 586 (24%), he said.

"As of June 19, a total of 404 ILI cases were being treated at 55 hospitals throughout the country, including 11 private hospitals," he said. Meanwhile, the statement also said that 350,760 frontline staff of government agencies such as police, immigration, fire and rescue department who are under the high-risk category, and members of the public, had been vaccinated.
