H1N1 case closes Lake Delton summer camp
Posted: Jun 23, 2009 9:21 AM EST
LAKE DELTON (WKOW) -- A Catholic youth summer camp in Lake Delton will be closed until at least July 5, after a staff member tested positive for the H1N1 virus late Monday.
Staffers at Camp Gray are busy notifying campers and their parents, after making the decision to shut down as a precaution.
The camp says no staff members have been hospitalized and those com planing of flu-like symptoms are being isolated for seven days.
Below is the full statement given to parents regarding the swine flu case:
Dear Parents of Camp Gray Camper,
Greetings! After a great start to our week we are sad to let you know that we need to close our camp. We will re-open Sunday, July 5, 2009.
Camp staff met with our health care team and advisory committees throughout the late afternoon and evening to determine the best course of action after one staff member was confirmed as positive for the H1N1 (swine flu) virus on Monday afternoon (June 22). No staff member has been hospitalized and those complaining of flu-like symptoms are being isolated for seven days. We have consulted with our medical director Dr. Maureen Murphy, infectious disease specialists, the State Health Department, and the Diocese of Madison. They are all in agreement with our plan.
If your child becomes ill with fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose or other flu-like symptoms, please call their healthcare provider and let them know that they may have been exposed to the H1N1 virus. Placing them on anti-viral medications can decrease their symptoms and shorten its course. It is effective if started within 48 hours of symptom onset.
The campers were notified of this decision this morning. Please help them understand that we have not reached this decision lightly. Because the well-being of our campers is of paramount concern we have made this regrettable but necessary decision. For more information about re-booking and refunds please visit our website at www.campgray.com or contact Tricia at Tricia@campgray.com. Thanks for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you back at camp in the future.
Sincerely,
Jeff and Rebecca Hoeben
