H1N1 Break Through at Huntsville Hudson-Alpha

Last week, WAAY 31 introduced you to Dr. Jian Han, a leading researcher at Hudson-Alpha who was hard at work on a new H-1-N-1 test. At the time, Dr. Han told us he was very close to being finished with his work.

On Thursday, he felt confident enough to announce his tests as a success. Dr. Han says the new testing he developed can confirm a case of swine flu in less than six hours. The current process can take several days.

Doctors and other researchers are quick to point out the benefits of Dr. Han's research. "This enables physicians to provide proper therapy in a timely manner," noted Dennis Grimaud, chief executive officer for Diatherix Laboratories. "A rapid confirmation can also mitigate many of the negative economic and social impacts associated with infectious disease outbreaks," he added, "ranging from school closures to reductions in retail traffic, travel and tourism."
