Guatemalan president declares health advisory following dengue outbreak

Health officials have documented 256 cases of dengue across the country in recent days.

GUATEMALA CITY ? Guatemalan President Otto P?rez Molina issued a national health advisory Sunday evening following an outbreak of dengue hemorrhagic fever that has caused four deaths, the government said.

?We have reports of 1,186 possible cases of dengue nationwide, of which 256 are confirmed, 26 are hemorrhagic dengue, and four have caused death,? P?rez Molina said after meeting with members of his Cabinet on Sunday...

Clinical cases: 7,704 (as compared to 2,421 in 2011)
Age groups most affected: 1-39 years old
Case rate: 50.18 per 100,000 people
Dengue remains in alert zone.
