Public Health: First locally acquired dengue fever on Guam in 75 years

Additional Confirmed Cases of Dengue; Community-Wide Efforts Continue

From close of business Friday through Saturday morning, the Guam Department of Public
Health and Social Services (DPHSS) tested and confirmed six additional cases of dengue
infection. Five of the six are locally acquired cases, meaning these individuals had no recent
travel history. One of the six cases is suspected to be an imported case, meaning it probably was
acquired through travel outside of Guam.

To date, there are now seven confirmed cases of locally acquired dengue infection and three
confirmed cases of imported dengue infection. With the enhanced surveillance and continued
timely reporting by Guam healthcare providers, DPHSS expects additional cases of dengue to be
detected. DPHSS also continues mosquito surveillance to include the capture of adult mosquitoes
in high-risk areas.

There’s one more confirmed case of locally acquired dengue fever on Guam, increasing the total cases to 16.

Samples from the suspected case had to be sent off island and took two weeks for results to return...

With today's announcement, the number of locally-acquired cases is now 11. Imported cases remain at seven...

Guam confirms another dengue case

HAG?T?A (The Guam Daily Post) — The Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services confirms another confirmed case of the dengue virus, but the Epidemiology and Surveillance Team is investigating whether the confirmed case was locally acquired or if it was imported.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 20.
