DES MOINES, Iowa —
The governor's office will be withholding COVID-19 vaccinations from five Iowa counties in the next week.

In a call with media outlets, the Iowa Department of Public Health Director Kelly Garcia said each county is required to distribute 80% of their allotted COVID-19 vaccines each week according to their population size. If they do not administer 80% of vaccines, the county will not receive their next week's allocation of vaccines.

Garcia told news outlets that five counties will not be receiving their next COVID-19 vaccinations next week, but refused to identify the counties.

KCRG was able to identify the counties as Washington, Chickasaw, Hancock, Poweshiek and Buchanan.

Iowa cancels plan to select vendor for vaccine call center

By RYAN J. FOLEYyesterday

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Kim Reynolds’ administration informed bidders Friday it would not award a contract for an outside vendor to operate a call center to help residents set up coronavirus vaccine appointments.

The Iowa Department of Public Health informed several companies that had submitted emergency bids for the contract last week that it would not select any of them and was “continuing to evaluate call center solutions.”

The department’s notice did not elaborate but cited an administrative rule that allows for bidding processes to be cancelled when in the state’s interest.

... As of Friday, federal data showed Iowa in 43rd place with only 9% of its residents having received one or more doses.
