Avian Influenza: New case in Western Pomerania

A dead mallard has been tested in Anklam positive for avian influenza viruses.

Anklam. New bird flu case in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: In a dead mallard from a park in Anklam (Vorpommern-Greifswald) avian influenza viruses have been found. This was confirmed by the State Department of Agriculture on Tuesday.
It is still unclear whether this is a serious, highly contagious variant. The tests should show the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut. Results are expected today.

Found H5N8 pathogen in chickens: Anklam

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern bird flu has recurred. The highly contagious pathogen H5N8 was detected according to the competent official veterinarian at four chickens from the holdings of a private holder in Anklam (district of Vorpommern-Greifswald). In early reports, it was still called that a Mallard was afflicted. It is the fourth bird flu case in the northeast since November. An infected animal was found on Friday. The holder had alerted the veterinary authorities.

In the animal enclosure in the city park Anklamer 50 more animals such as ducks, chickens and geese were kept. They were killed on Wednesday morning. Now will examine how many of the animals have the virus actually worn in, it was the veterinary authorities. In addition, a restricted area with a radius of three kilometers was established. In this area, called swab samples are now made more than 200 livestock keepers. The county wants to specifically test whether other stocks are affected. If this is the case, these animals are culled.

Make sure the veterinary poultry farmers recommends that wild birds do not have access to food and bedding. In addition, the animals should not use surface water that may be frequented by wild birds.
