First bird flu case in Central Germany

In central Germany,a first case of the highly contagious virus H5N8 bird flu in a mallard been proven in Aken, Saxony-Anhalt . This was confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture in Magdeburg. The animal was found dead two weeks ago on the river Elbe Aken (Anhalt-Bitterfeld). Agriculture Minister Hermann Onko Aeikens said the authorities immediately have taken all necessary measures.

Stockenten haben normalerweise nicht solche Viren mit sovielen Aminosaeure-Mutationen
besonders in den Segmenten 7 und 8. Es koennte ein reassoziiertes Virus sein.
Wildschweine sind in den letzten Jahren im Raum Bitterfeld zunehmend zur Plage geworden.
