Affected are a small farm with 14 animals in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district and a turkey population of around 20,700 animals in the Rostock district. The currently dominant virus type HPAI H5N1 was detected in both cases. This means that five poultry holdings and one zoo in MV have been affected by avian influenza since October 2021. There are also 44 HPAI records for wild birds.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Agriculture Minister Dr. Till Backhaus takes this as an opportunity to remind all poultry farmers once again to conscientiously adhere to the biosecurity measures in order to prevent further outbreaks in domestic poultry populations as far as possible. "The autumn migration of the wild birds has not yet been completed, so there is still a risk of virus contamination," said Backhaus. An all-clear could therefore not be given for the time being.
In the State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries (LALLF), almost 200 samples of wild birds have been examined for avian influenza since mid-October.
In many counties, partial stalls have already been ordered, for example in high-risk areas with plenty of water or for stalls that keep more than 500 or 1,000 poultry outdoors. Current information can be viewed, among other things, on the respective websites of the districts / urban districts.
