Avian Influenza: 2,800 laying geese in the district of G?tersloh

In a poultry stock in Rietberg-Westerwiehe the avian influenza has broken out. This has been confirmed by the Friedrich-L?ffler-Institut, the Federal Research Institute for Animal Health at the Ostseeinsel Riems. It is a laying geese farm with 2,800 animals. The Veterinary Office of G?tersloh County immediately caused the killing of the herd and all other necessary measures.

For example, a barrier district (at least three kilometers in diameter) and an observation area (at least ten kilometers in diameter) were set up around the affected farm. In these areas, restrictions on holders and marketers of poultry, which are mentioned in the order, for example, in addition to the circulatory stature already existing since 22nd November, a ban on the importation of poultry poultry may not be transported within the area.

In the restricted area, there are a total of 200 farms with a reported maximum stock of approximately 800,000 poultry, in the observation area 600 locations with a maximum reported stock of 2,000,000 poultry. The actual figures are significantly lower and will be determined during this and next week.

The owner of the farm had informed his farm animal on Monday evening of ten deaths among his laying geese. He referred directly to the Veterinary and Food Monitoring Division of G?tersloh County. The veterinarian then ordered the examination of the animals at the Chemisches und Veterin?runforschungamtes Ostwestfalen-Lippe Westfalen (CVUA-OWL) in Detmold. On Tuesday evening, the laboratory of the CVUA reported "H5 positiv".

The Kreis Veterin?ramt immediately informed the NRW Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection about the suspicion of avian influenza. The investigation of the Friedrich-L?ffler-Institute finally revealed the high-infected virus variant N8.
