Georgia hospitalizations highest since September

Re: Georgia hospitalizations highest since September

But, Dr. Schucat did not expressly mention any specific numbers of hospitalizations. And the graph in post 11 does show a trend upward in hospitalizations from late December through March even without the, presumably, erroneous 80 and 72 numbers. But the fact that the 80 and 72 numbers were (and continue to be) quoted by many sources indicates that they were widely accepted as correct. At this point, I agree with JimO, a public act of setting the record straight by the Georgia DCH would be helpful.

The media was given only a 2 hour advance notice of this news conference.

Re: Georgia hospitalizations highest since September

It is possible that the numbers on the official site are only confirmed cases, with others pending testing confirmation. If this is the case we will be unlikely to hear any confirmation on the state of play for a little while as there will be a time lag between now and satisfactory testing of suspect cases, especially given the numbers and the potential for false negatives.

If there has been an admin error prior to this point, they are likely to want to be 100% sure that what is posted now is accurate.

Re: Georgia hospitalizations highest since September

I just hope all the excitement generated by the CDC's comments wasn't based solely on a clerical error.

Re: Georgia hospitalizations highest since September

Anne Schuchat: Georgia has had regional disease for several weeks now. And since December 1st, they've had 357 people hospitalized for influenza in the state and 22 deaths. The last couple weeks they've had more hospitalizations each week than they've had at any time since last October. So they had an early rise in disease in late August and September. And then by October when a lot of the rest of the country was seeing an increase in cases, they were at a calmer period. And now really since -- during February and March, they've really seen a big jump in disease.

By April 1st, Dr Schuchat was quoting numbers which were erring on the low side. The current table gives totals of approx. 427 hospitalizations and 23 fatalities for that same period, while the old table from #1 adds up to approx. 369 and 19.
