GAZA, Dec 10 (NNN-KUNA) ? Health officials in Gaza has requested for international medical assistance following the death of a sixth case of swine flu.

The deceased, a woman in her 50s, also had heart problem and an acute lung infection, Palestinian Gaza health official Hasan Khalaf told KUNA on Wednesday.

The woman had acquired the A(H1N1) virus two days earlier, and all means taken to treat her have failed, added the official.

Khalaf appealed to Arab and Islamic nations along with the international community to dispatch vaccines and serums to Gaza, for the protection of the weak and disadvantaged.

The official noted to the need of around 200,000 swine flu vaccines for children, pregnant women and the elderly, who suffer from a weak immune system as a result of diseases common to the region like diabetes.

Gazan health authorities are doing their best to accommodate all suspected cases, through laboratory analysis, diagnosis and observation.

Earlier Wednesday, a pregnant woman in her 20s, also infected with swine flu, died after giving birth.

Swine flu cases in Gaza have reached 15, but most recovered since the announcement of the virus in the occupied territory last Thursday.
