COLUMBUS, Ga. --

With the summer heat, come mosquitoes. These pesky bugs can not only leave an itchy bite; but a possibly deadly disease; West Nile Virus.

The Columbus Department of Public Health is warning folks of a possible case in Muscogee County.

More West Nile cases confirmed in Southwest Georgia

ALBANY, Ga. - Four more human cases of West Nile virus have been confirmed in Southwest Health District this week, bringing the season?s total to five and prompting public health officials to remind residents to take precautions against mosquito bites.

#The first case was that of a man in his 60s from Dougherty County. Of the new cases, one patient is from Lee County while the other three are from Dougherty County.

Three confirmed West Nile deaths in Southwest GA

The number of West Nile virus cases in South Georgia has risen to 12 according to the Southwest Health District, and three people have died.

One of the deaths was in Early County, and two were in Dougherty, and all in the last week...

Two West Nile Cases, One Fatal, Reported in Gwinnett

A total of 43 cases have been reported in Georgia this year.

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, two West Nile cases have been confirmed in Gwinnett County since August.

Health Department Communications Director Karen Shields said that one victim, 53, has recovered, but another, 78, passed away from the mosquito-borne pathogen...

A Houston County man diagnosed with West Nile virus died Tuesday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, his son said.
