LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Tragedy strikes a family in Moss Bluff after their 14-year old son dies while sick with the flu.

Jonathon Fontenot of Moss Bluff died on Tuesday night after being airlifted to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital around 9:30 PM.

"I don't know how to describe it, I'm such in shock," says Chris Fontenot, Jonathon's father. "I can't believe that my son is gone. "

Chris says his son Jonathon was healthy and well just a few days ago.

"In the evenings after school you'd see him right here running around playing ball in the yard," says Chris.

Chris says Jonathon began experiencing symptoms of the flu on Saturday.

"He went to the doctor yesterday and was diagnosed with the flu," says Chris. "They started him on a typical flu treatment."

Shortly after his mother put him to bed, Jonathon's younger sister found him on the floor where he was not breathing.

"He was airlifted to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital where they continued CPR or artificial breathing," says Chris. "Then he just never pulled out of it, we don't know what happened."

"I miss him," says Victoria Fontenot, Jonathon's sister. "I just want him back."

Although Jonathon is gone, his sister Victoria will always remember his personality best.

"When someone was sad he would go and just start dancing and singing, and he can't sing at all," says Victoria. "It was really funny, and he just always wanted people to be happy and stuff."

Chris says he will always refer to Jonathon as his best buddy.

"We did everything together," says Chris. "I would take him fishing and take him around the woods. That's what I'll miss, just spending time with Jonathon."

Although fond memories are there, the pain will not heal until the family knows the real secret behind Jonathon's death.

"One minute everything's fine, the next minute my whole world is changed," says Chris. "At this point we have no idea, we're just trying to make it through the day right now."

Moss Bluff Middle School has counselors available for the students this week.

The Fontenot family is still waiting on the Coroner's office to release a cause of death.

Visitation for Jonathon will be at Saint Theordore's Catholic Church in Moss Bluff on Friday evening from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the funeral service starts at 10 a.m.

MOSS BLUFF, LA (KPLC) There are at least 25 confirmed cases of swine flu in the state of Louisiana. One of the latest deaths related to the virus is right here in the Lake Area. A Moss Bluff family is mourning the loss of 14-year-old Jonathon Fontenot.

"Jonathon was a normal 14-year-old boy. He went to school here in Moss Bluff. He went to Moss Bluff Middle. He was in the 8th grade," said Jonathon's father, Chris Fontenot.

People that knew Jonathon the best say he was very outgoing. He played for the school band and loved hanging out with friends. But earlier in the week, Jonathon mentioned he wasn't feeling well and was diagnosed with the flu on Tuesday. That very same day Jonathan passed away.

The Calcasieu Parish Coroner Dr. Terry Welke says Jonathan died from complications related to H1N1 Influenza. Welke said there is no cause for alarm. He says this is not the typical outcome for someone diagnosed with swine flu.

"The individuals that have died in the past as a result of this, had some medical complications," said Welke.

After the loss of his son, Jonathon's father is encouraging everyone to get the H1N1 vaccination.

Funeral services for Jonathon are Saturday at Saint Theodore's Catholic Church in Moss Bluff at 10:00am.
