Flu outbreaks in Japan exceed advisory level in 17 prefectures

Health officials in Japan say the number of influenza cases across the country posted a week-on-week increase in the seven days through Sunday.
The National Institute of Infectious Diseases and others say about 5,000 medical institutions reported 54,709 cases. That's up about 5,500 from the previous seven-day period.
The average number of patients per institution stood at 11.07, exceeding the threshold of 10 cases for local authorities to issue an advisory.
By region, Okinawa had the highest number at 25.37, followed by Chiba at 20.86 and Saitama at 19.69...
