Flu outbreak expected in Tajikistan

"DUSHANBE, February 6, 2013, Asia-Plus -- The Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision under the Ministry of Health (MoH) warns of possible flu outbreak in the country.

?To-date, the epidemic threshold for influenza and acute respiratory viral infection has not yet been exceeded in the country,? said Navrouz Jafarov, deputy head of the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision. ?However, outbreak of influenza may occur among schoolchildren soon.?

?Unfortunately, we do not have vaccine to prevent spread of the disease. Therefore, physicians from out-patient clinics are carrying out explanatory work at schools.?

According to statistical data from the Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision, more than 238,000 cases of acute respiratory viral infection, including 15,600 cases of influenza, have been registered in the country since the beginning of the year."
