A flu-like bug is making its presence known in Vermilion Parish schools.

Last week, the flu-like bug came out in full force on Thursday and Friday, which caused one school to close.

Harvest Time Christian Academy on Wildcat Drive in Abbeville closed Thursday and Friday because almost half its teaching staff was home with flu symptoms.

According to Brett Darby, the principal of the school, seven out of 16 teachers stayed home because they were sick. Darby said it was impossible to find that many substitute teachers on short notice, leaving the school no other choice but to close the school. There were also 38 out of 170 students who were home due to the flu.
