DOVER ? Health officials have confirmed the first case of influenza in the state for the 2010-2011 flu season.

A Sussex County infant, under the age of one, was confirmed with Type A/H3 influenza Oct. 8 by the Delaware Public Health Labortory.

According to Karyl Rattay, director of the state Division of Public Health, the strain is included in the current flu shot that?s available in doctor?s offices and pharmacies.

?All persons older than six months should get protected by receiving a flu shot,? she said.

This year?s flu vaccine protects against both sesaonal flu strains and the H1N1 virus.

The DPH has provided 27,310 doses of the vaccine to health providers through the Vaccines for Children program.
