Investigators plan to conduct autopsies today on a mother and daughter found dead in their Titusville home by an ailing, dementia-stricken relative.

Investigators are trying to determine if the pair died as a result of lingering respiratory illnesses or other medical-related problems.

Brevard County Sheriff?s deputies were called to the home about 4 p.m. Monday after a 65-year-old man living at a home on the 1800 block of Hallum Avenue managed to leave his room in the home and call 9-1-1 dispatchers for help.

The man told dispatchers that he could not wake his ex-wife and daughter and that they were cool to the touch, investigators report.

The ex-wife was 65 and her daughter, 50. Neither had been seen in several days

Women found dead in Mims home identified
Man who found bodies still in hospital, officials say

MIMS, Fla. - Brevard County sheriff's deputies have released the identities on Tuesday of the two women who were found dead in a Mims home Monday afternoon.

Deputies said Kathrine Myers, 65, and Jerri Brown, 50, who they believe to be related, were found dead in their home on the 1800 block Hallum Avenue, just south of State Road 46 Monday afternoon.

A family member, who detectives think is the ex-husband of Myers and father of Brown, found them and called 911. Deputies identified that man as Jerry Lee Hawkins, 69, who is still hospitalized as of Tuesday.

Hawkins was taken to the hospital because he had some sort of upper-respiratory condition. They are waiting on his test results, deputies said. He suffers from Alzheimer's and dementia.

Deputies also released the 911 calls from Hawkins after he found the women.

"Yes I need someone to come out and to find out what?s wrong with two women, I can't get them awake," Hawkins told dispatchers.

According to a Brevard County sheriff's news release, Myers and Brown were found in separate bathrooms and appeared to be sleeping. Hawkins called authorities after he couldn't wake up either of the women.

Investigators said they haven't found any physical evidence suggesting injury or traumatic death. They believe it could be illness that killed the women, but they said they don't know for sure.

The Brevard County Medical Examiner is doing autopsies, which are expected to be back in a couple of weeks.

"The daughter was dead for a couple more days than the mother, and then he [Hawkins] called 911 to report a smell and the door was shut. He's a hermit, he stays in his room and he may not of know what was going on," said caregiver Ashley Marion

The two women had a close bond, so close, that some say the mother was unable to go on after finding her daughter dead.

"They were inseparable, and if something did happened to the daughter, the mother wouldn't have anywhere to go anyways. So she just took her own life," Marion said.

There was speculation the mother and daughter died from some mystery illness, but Marion said she has been lead to believe this could have been suicide of the mother after finding her daughter dead.

This may contradicts the above report that the deaths occurred several days apart, although the person making the call has been reported to have dementia.

I'm also not 100% sure the surviving case really is an ex-husband...

Both were apparently suffering from lingering coughs and respiratory problems along with several other medical-related problems, sheriff’s officials reported.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched about 4 p.m. Monday to the Hallum Avenue home in Mims after Jerry Lee Hawkins, 69, called 9-1-1 for help.
“I need somebody to see what’s wrong with two women...I can’t get them awake,” Hawkins said in a sluggish tone.
Hawkins told dispatchers that he could not wake his ex-wife and daughter — both found lying in their separate beds —and that they were cool to the touch, investigators reported.
“Are they sick?” the dispatcher asked.
“They have had a cold...we’ve all been sick....just coughing,” said Hawkins, who also is disabled. At one point the dispatcher asks if he could pull one of the women from the bed.
“I’m afraid I’ll drop one of them and hurt them,” he tells the dispatcher.
Neither of the women, who would often sit on the front porch of the single-story home and wave to neighbors, had been seen in several days.
“Both of them had some kind of cold but they didn’t seem that sick,” said Ray Compton, who has known Hawkins for several years.
