State Summary:

  • The fall wave of H1N1 appears to be over in Florida, as evidenced by influenza activity falling to levels normally seen this time of year in most of our monitoring systems. Flu activity is expected to continue for months, caused by either 2009 H1N1 viruses or regular seasonal flu viruses, although levels of activity are expected to vary during the season. There were no H1N1 deaths reported this week for the first time since week 22.
  • Very few new positive laboratory results for influenza have been received in the past three weeks, but those detected are still for the 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus. Strains of the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus remain uniformly sensitive to antivirals oseltamivir and zanamivir (Tamiflu and Relenza).

Weekly state influenza activity: Sporadic

  • This week Florida reported Sporadic influenza activity to the CDC for the first time since week 23.
  • Multiple indicators of influenza activity in Florida continue to show substantial reductions, and there were no influenza outbreaks reported for week 52
