First local child death from swine flu reported

A 4-year-old is the first Kern County child to die locally from H1N1 (swine) flu- related complications, the Department of Public Health announced Tuesday.
The child, whose name has not been released, was never taken to the hospital, according to the department. Instead, the virus was discovered after an autopsy was performed.
The child is the 16th person this year to die from H1N1-related complications. Officials said more deaths from people of all ages are expected, and therefore it's important to take preventative measures.
One hundred and seventy-four people have been hospitalized from H!N1 complications in the county to date, according to the department.
Details on the case will be made available following a pending final report by the department
