Female student is second case of swine flu at Grafton High

YORK - ? A female student became the second case of H1N1 influenza, or swine flu, confirmed at Grafton High School, according to York County School Division officials.
A male student at Grafton and a male student at Jamestown High School in Williamsburg were confirmed to be recovering from the virus earlier this week.
The most recent case is a female 18 or older, said Dr. David Trump, health director for the Peninsula Health District. She was not hospitalized and is recovering well, Trump said.
That person is a student at Grafton, according to school division spokeswoman Betsy Overkamp-Smith.
This was the seventh case of the flu virus in the Peninsula Health District, which covers Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg, and York and James City counties.
School officials sent a letter and automated phone message Friday to inform Grafton parents of the new case. The letter also said the school division continues to follow recommended flu-season cleaning protocols.
Division-wide, an automated call was scheduled to go out Friday night informing parents of the second case and telling them that letters won't be sent out if more cases occur. Because the health-related guidance doesn't change, the same information applies and the past letters are still on the division's Web site, Overkamp-Smith said.
Trump reiterated that people with flu-like symptoms should stay home from school and work. Washing hands and covering coughs or sneezes helps minimize spreading the virus.
