Anche una zanzara pu? trasformarsi in un pericoloso killer. E riuscire a far tremare un'intera isola. Non un insetto qualunque, ma infetto dalla temuta West Nile, la febbre del Nilo. La Sardegna era in allerta fin dal 2008, lo scorso settembre l'allarme: il virus ? arrivato. Dall'Africa fino agli stagni dell'oristanese e in particolare della penisola del Sinis, ?tradita? proprio da una delle sue attrazioni pi? belle: i fenicotteri rosa. Sono stati loro, insieme con altri uccelli migratori che abitano quei lembi di terra e acqua, a portarlo. Poi gli insetti che li hanno punti hanno generato l'epidemia, per un totale di 54 focolai riconosciuti. E uno spaventoso bilancio in pochi mesi: 34 uccelli, 18 cavalli morti, e soprattutto 4 vite umane; l'ultima morte risale al 22 dicembre. E mentre i contagi sembrano essersi fermati, con l'arrivo del freddo, ci si prepara con difficolt? a un possibile ritorno dell'emergenza gi? dalla primavera.
