KUWAIT: The investigation committee which was formed by the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources to follow up on the crisis of containing the bird flu virus confirmed that all falcons that had officially been granted entry into the country recently were not infected with the virus.
The falcons they said, which were granted entry for sheikhs, a Qatari sheikh and some other citizens were all found to be free of the bird flu virus, as they all had been examined before entering Kuwait.
A decree issued by the public authority's committee had earlier imposed a ban on the import of birds into the country due to the spread of bird flu virus, but these birds were exempted from the ban in accordance to law No. 774 of the authority since all the birds were examined and found free of the disease.
The report also indicated that international laws permitted persons to carry birds along, such as falcons and used some countries as a transit point just like in the case of the Qatari sheikh who traveled to Iraq via Kuwait and carried his falcons with him.
Moreover, the falcons were examined and results revealed that they were not infected with the virus.
