Maria-Christina Cardona-Guel, age 33 of Lynden, died at St. Joseph Hospital on Sunday, January 31, 2010 from complications of the H1N1 virus. Chrissy, as she was affectionately known, was born in Bellingham on April 22, 1976 and was the daughter of Jose and Maria (Cantu) Cardona. She graduated from Lynden High School in 1994 and was employed at T-Mobile and then for the past three years as an administrative assistant for the Employment Security office in Bellingham. She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lynden and loved to spend time with her family. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed writing. Besides her parents, Christina is survived by her daughter Micaela N. Guel; siblings, Mattie (Robert) Cardona-Panatex of Yakima, Pete Cardona and Eliasar (Samantha) Cardona of Lynden and numerous other relatives. A Vigil Prayer Service will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7:00 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lynden. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Emilio Gonzalez on Friday, Feb. 5, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials in Christina's name may be made to a trust fund for Micaela at Sterling Savings Bank in Lynden.
