Two cases of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) were reported this week with one each from Somali and Oromiya provinces. The onsets of paralysis were between 24 July and 9 September 2019. A total of five cVDPV2 cases have been reported in Ethiopia in 2019, with four linked to the outbreak in neighbouring Somalia and the fifth case is part of a newly reported Ethiopian outbreak this week.
