The spokesman of the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan Regional Government denied the existence of any link between the recorded disease case in Erbil and Ebola. Dr. Khalis Kader told Bas News that "there is no Ebola disease in the Kurdistan Region, not even in Iraq, and there is no truth to these rumors."
He added that "in Erbil governorate, a case of Congo virus [Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever] was recorded in a woman raising animals, and now the Ministry of Health has taken control of the site."
The spokesman for the Ministry of Health explained that the recorded case is different from the Ebola virus and is transmitted through ticks from animals to humans, the patient show signs of fever and it characteristically does not spread easily.
Dr. Khalis Kader assured the people of the Kurdistan Region that there is nothing to fear about.
Earlier today [Wed 16 May 2018], the Director General of Erbil Health, completely denied the reports about the spread of Ebola disease in the Kurdistan Region. Dr. Saman Barzanji told Bas News that "the news of the spread of Ebola in Erbil is baseless." He added that "our tests did not show this disease."

[Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is a tick-borne viral disease that causes a possibly fatal hemorrhagic illness in humans. Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is a zoonotic viral disease that is asymptomatic in infected livestock. The disease is endemic in the Middle East region.
Human infection with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever can occur among the people involved in the livestock industry including agricultural workers, slaughterhouse workers, and veterinarians. The diseases can cause nonspecific febrile symptoms, but it might progress to a severe hemorrhagic syndrome with a case fatality rate of up to 50 percent. - Mod.NS
