ISLAMABAD: Emergency has been declared in all hospitals of the capital after the death of an 8-year-old girl due to gastroenteritis in Bara Kahu.

All hospitals, including the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the Federal Government Service Hospital, commonly known as Polyclinic and the CDA Hospital, have received a notification from the Islamabad administration directing them to take precautionary measures. Gastric diseases have again hit across the country this year and hospitals are crowded with gastric patients. Sources in the Polyclinic said that they had received at least 51 patients, including 33 children, last day. Patients with gastric complaints are increasing in PIMS. According to experts, main symptoms of viral gastroenteritis are watery diarrhea and vomiting. People should avoid unhygienic food and prefer freshly cooked food in summers.
