Eight Swine Flu Cases Confirmed at Montana State University

By Associated Press, 09-11-09
BOZEMAN ? Health officials at Montana State University say eight students have been diagnosed with swine flu since classes began last month.

Jim Mitchell, director of the student health service, says none of the students was hospitalized.

The first two who showed symptoms of the flu tested positive for the virus. Mitchell says "the recommendation is to test several people and if they come back positive, we just presume that everyone who has the symptoms has the virus." He adds that he thinks the swine flu is the only influenza variety in the community at the moment.

Colleges across the country have seen spikes in the number of suspected cases of swine flu.

Earlier this month, the University of Kansas reported 291 students with swine flu-like symptoms, and Washington State is in the midst of an outbreak suspected of sickening at least 2,200 students.
