Eight Schools in Hamilton County Have Double-Digit Absenteeism

Posted: Oct 12, 2009

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - T

he Hamilton County Department of Education has no plans to shut down the school district, despite eight schools experiencing double-digit absenteeism.

Acting on multiple tips about attendance, Channel 3 Eyewitness News requested the attendance report for Thursday, October 8. While we found eight schools with above average absenteeism, a school spokesperson sees no alarm in the figures.

According to HCDE, the entire district is at a 5.8% absentee rate with roughly 2,400 students absent last Thursday. That means approximately 40,000 students were in school.

Two schools registered perfect attendance on the date we checked. All 73 girls at the Chattanooga Girls' Leadership Academy were present. Lookout Valley Elementary also had full headcount of 338 students. We have listed the schools with double-digit numbers from Thursday, October 8.
