A state of panic hit the people of Ameriya in Alexandria after the death of three cases Shatibi Hospital in Alexandria, after doctors diagnosed as suffering from a strange germs in the blood.
وأكد على محمود عبد الحميد القاطن بمساكن عبد القادر بمنطقة العامرية، أن ابنه أصيب يوم 2 يونيو الجارى بارتفاع شديد فى درجة الحرارة شخصها الطبيب على أنها نزلة شعبية شديدة، وبعد عودتنا للمنزل وجدنا بقعا حمراء بدأت فى الانتشار بمناطق متفرقة فى جسده فاتصلنا بالطبيب الذى طلب منا التوجه الفورى لمستشفى الشاطبى، وهناك شخص الأطباء الحالة على أنها ميكروب فى الدم، وأخذوا عينة من الدم من ظهره للاطمئنان ما إذا كان الميكروب وصل للمخ أم لا وتم احتجاز ابنى فى المستشفى.​

This is a REALLY bad sign. This sounds a little like hemorrhagic fever, with seven cases and three deaths reported just in this one hospital. Symptoms include strange red spots on the body. Taken together with the reports of "plague" in Libya, something bad is going on.

Please post anything else you find on this one.

Interesting. That was just added. So this means, one mortality, not 3? I will change the title, if so. Although I see the title to the original article has not been changed.

I'm not so sure of the quality of that translation. This could be bacterial meningitis ("strain of the brain") with the red spots being from bacteria in the blood ("germs in the blood"). The last line of the add-on paragraph might also indicate only one death, not 3. This is certainly worth investigating further. I don't really know what to make of this. The reference to "son of Gary" might even be a disease name mistranslated, as Gary is not a typical Egyptian name.

Actually, this is suspected at least to be bacterial meningitis. The "sample from the back" is probably a spinal tap. I don't know what the incubation period for bacterial meningitis is, though, and whether the timing would be correct.

Further information from knowledgable source would be appreciated.

On looking at the onset dates, the suspected meningitis in Alexandria started on 6/2, which seems to be about a week earlier than the suspected plague in Libya. Between that and the distance between Alexandria and Libya, I don't think the two outbreaks are related.

And the fact that the doctor edited this article after it was published, takes some of the credibility out of the original reporter.

my wife just read this a couple of times.

the first person was treated by the doctor for a bad case of chest congestion and sent home. just after returning home the spots began to developed, they the family, telephoned the doctor and he directed they go for testing at the hospital. then the girl came down with the same symptoms and died

the word "gary in arabic" means neighbor which is the third case spoke about in this article. that came down with the same symptoms and it indicates, it can be spread easily person to person.

they also try to say it could be something from the local slaughterhouse

and the edited version says it could be meningitis but from the 2nd till now i call bull of the edited version.

I think they are blaming the local slaughter house because of pigs and swine flu. Meningococcal meningitis would fit the description of the symptoms, and can be spread through close contact. So "son of Gary" should read son of the neighbor, which is consistent with the kids playing with each other.

By the "edited version" - Do you mean the last paragraph added? Were there any other edits?

We could really use a second source on this one.
