One New Confirmed Human Cases of H5N1 avian influenza virus infections

April 17 2011

The Egyptian Ministry of Health announces one new additional human cases of bird flu in its latest update published on April 17 2011.

The number of fatalities remains the same.

With respect an earlier report (April 8 2011), the cumulative number of confirmed human bird flu cases has increased by one.



The figures are the following:

• Cumulative Number of Confirmed Human Bird Flu Cases In Egypt (since 2006): 143 (*)
• Cumulative Number of Fatal Cases (since 2006): 47 (**)
• Patients discharged from hospital after recovery: 95 (***)

The most recent World Health Organization update (http://www.who.int/entity/csr/don/2011_04_11/en/index.html ), showed the following figures:

• (*) Confirmed cases (since 2006): 141
• (**) Cumulative Number of Deaths: 46

The ministry of health reported on April 8 (***)(http://www.flutrackers.com/forum/showthread.php?p=404129#post404129 ), 92 patients discharged, 142 confirmed cases since 2006, and 47 fatalities.

Since the start of 2011, Egypt notified to the WHO (April 11 2011)(http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/country/cases_table_2011_04_11/en/index.html ), 22 H5N1 human cases with 6 deaths.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health webpage has been updates with data as for April 17 2011.

No new confirmed cases and/or new fatalities.

Figures remain unchanged even for patients discharged after recovery (95).
