Total human bird flu infection cases are 34, 14 cases died, 20 cases recovered completely. 2862 suspected cases were inspected and more than 25.000 chickens were tested in 1400 villages of which only 270 sites were tested positive.
- H5N1 virus has appeared in 21 governorates (Cairo, Giza, Qalyubiya, Daqahliya, Alexandria, Beni Sueif, Qena, Beheira, Menoufiya, Kafr el-Sheikh, Gharbiya, Menya, Damietta, Sharqiya, Fayyoum, Sohag, Luxor City, Ismailia, Aswan and Asuit).
- As of April 23rd 2006, 812 farms had reported infections with El-Sharqia reporting the highest number of infected farms (271), with the largest number occurring the district of Menya El-Qamh (73). El-Qalubia had the second highest number of infected farms (177), with the largest number occurring in the district of Banha(57). El-Giza had the third highest number of infections (107), with the largest number occurring in the district of El-Badrasheen (35).
- Deaths among chickens reached 63790 in (Fayyoum, Beni Sueif, Menoufiya, Sharqiya and Gharbiya governorates).
- The number of the birds culled under the supervision of veterinary medicine hit (117962) in (Gharbiya, Beheira, Alexandria, and the Red Sea governorates).
Cairo Governorate:
- 29500 chickens were culled plus other 4000 dead chickens found in Faculty of Agriculture Farm, Cairo University and Al-Marg district.
- Five bird flu infections were reported in a farm at the 28 km district, Cairo-Ismailia Road as well as Al-Gamaliah district.
Giza Governorate:
- 563 bird flu infections were culled at the Giza Zoo.
- 57, 000 chickens were culled in two chickens' farms at Al-Badrasheen district, Kirdasa and Al-Saff district.
- 36 bird flu infections were reported in farms at Al-Haram, Monsha'at Al-Qanater, Al-Saff, Imbaba, Al-Ayyat and Al-Badrasheen.
Qalyubiya Governorate:
- 40, 500 birds were culled at Kafr Shukr district.
- 74 bird flu infections appeared in the farms of Toukh, Kafr Shukr, Banha, Al-Khanka and Al-Qanater Al-Khayria).
Kafr el-Sheikh Governorate:
- The number of the dead poultry hit 10 to 100 in Kafr el-Sheikh.
- 12 bird flu infections were reported in the farms of Al-Hamoul, Kafr el-Kheir, Fowa district and Teleen.
Sharqiya Governorate:
- 284, 000 birds were culled in the farms of Belbeis, Al-Salihia Al-Gadida and Mashtoul el-Sook.
- 148 bird flu infections appeared in the farms of Zaqziq, Al-Walga, Awlad Saqr, Hahya, Faqous, Al-Husseinia, Al-Salhia Al-Gadida, Belbeis, Abu Hammad, Mashtoul el-Souk, Menya Al-Qamh and Abu Kabir.
Daqahliya Governorate:
- 56, 000 birds were culled in Mit Ghamr.
- 28 bird flu infections were reported in the farms of Sahragat Al-Kubra, Belqas, Mit Ghamr, Al-Mansoura, Al-Nazla, el-Senbellawein, Tumi el-Amdeed, and Sherbeen district.

- Deaths among poultry raised at home hit 300 to 400 chickens in Ashmoun.
- 19 bird flu infections were reported in the farms of Quesna, Al-Bagour, Shebeen Al-Koum.
Damietta Governorate:
- 15 birds were culled in the farm of Ra's el-Barr.
- 7 bird flu infections were reported in Kafr Saad, a village in Farskour and Al-Zarqa.
Beheira Governorate:
- 4000 birds were culled in Al-Mahmoudia.
- One bird flu infection was reported in one of the farms of Shubrakheit.
- 2 bird flu infections were reported in two of the farms of Al-Tahrir.
- 19 bird flu infections were reported so the total infections reached 12 cases.
Alexandria Governorate:
- Four bird flu infection were reported in a farm at Al-Shoruouq district.
Beni Sueif Governorate:
- The number of the dead poultry hit 70 to 16, 000 in Beni Sueif.
- 9 bird flu infections were reported in Beni Sueif, five villages at Beni Sueif District, two locations at Nasser, Samsta, Bba, Al-Wasta and Ahnasia.
Qena Governorate:
- 600 birds were culled in Al-Atayat, Deshna.
- One bird flu infection was reported in a farm in Qena District.
Menya Governorate:
- Tens of bird flu infected poultry were reported in Samalout.
- 26 bird flu infections appeared in the farms of Maghagha, Beni Mazar, Samalout, Menya and Matay.
Sohag Governorate:
- 16, 580 chicks were culled in Tama, Akhmim, and Al-Monsha'a.
- 14 bird flu infection tested positive in one of the four farms in Tama, Akhmim, Al-Monsha'a and Tahta.
Luxor Governorate:
- One bird flu infection was reported in a farm in Luxor City.
Fayyoum Governorate:
- 16 bird flu infections were reported in Atsa and Tamia.
Gharbiya Governorate:
- 28 bird flu infections were reported in the farms of Tanta, Al-Mahla Al-Kubra, Kafr el-Zayyat and Al-Santa.
Ismailia Governorate:
- 4 bird flu infections were reported in two farms in Al-Tal Al-Kabir and Al-Qassaseen.
Aswan Governorate:
- One bird flu infection was reported in one of Aswan farms.
Asuit Governorate:
- One bird flu infection was reported in one in Derot district.
- The number of poultry freezing enterprises to be funded by the Social Fund hit 1670 in its first phase.
- Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs has specified 53 locations in Egypt for safe birds culling.
- A 15-day prohibition on the transfer of live poultry and the slaughtering of birds outside abattoirs has been announced. Yet, frozen and slaughtered poultry plus eggs can be transferred.
- The number of Tamiflu packets increased to 80, 000 in Egypt.
- 84 specimens from Cattle Egret in the Giza Zoo have been taken plus other two specimens from the same bird in Falouga Protected Area and two other specimens from Great Cormorant.
