Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

06 07, 2006

Cairo, July. 6, (BNA) -- An Egyptian medical source denied today the reoccurring news of the death of people from bird flu south of Egypt.

Egyptian Ministry of Health Undersecretary, Dr. Mohammed Dhaiya Al Mesari, said that the woman who died in a hospital in that area suffered severe fever and that her parents treated her in a private clinic at first. On finding that she was not recovering they transferred her to the hospital where she died upon arrival. Dr. Al Mesari affirmed that the cause of death was not bird flu especially that the house she was living in had no birds at all.

Re: Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

An Egyptian medical source denied today the reoccurring news of the death of people from bird flu south of Egypt.
What concerns me is that they seem to be referring to the "death of people" and not the "death of a person". The phrase "death of people" implies that there is more than just the case of the women who died in the hospital.

I believe this is a "cause for concern".

Re: Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

Alternatively it could simply be a translation issue.
.

Re: Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

True, but the other word "reoccurring" would also imply mutliple cases.

Once again it could be a translation issue, but that whole sentence doesn't sit well with me.

Re: Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

Theresa, are you able to get translations of the reports that they're denying?

Yeah. I haven't been checking the Egyptian press (Al Wafd) for a couple of weeks now. Guess I'm gonna spend my evening going back through some back issues to see what's been going on.... ;)

From today's paper...

Re: Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

I guess we have a clearer picture of what the Egyptian Ministry of Health Undersecretary, Dr. Mohammed Dhaiya Al Mesari was referring too.

Re: Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

See map for location of latest denied case. Blue circle represents Egypt's last confirmed case--30 miles away. Keep up the good work, T42. Also, are there ANY reports or rumors out of Iraq or Turkey in the last month?

Re: Egypt denies more deaths from bird flu

So we have an 18 year female that had a severe fever, sharp bronchitis and did not respond to medical treatment.

I beleive that Ahmed Farrag's, Dshna chief prosecutor said that she died of Bird Flu.

Egyptian Ministry of Health Undersecretary, Dr. Mohammed Dhaiya Al Mesari then denies that the girl died of Bird Flu but provides no alternative explanation other than "rumors".
