Concern over suspected outbreak of swine flu in Ibarra Prison

Ibarra (CRE) .-
The authorities of the Provisional Detention Centre (PDC) in Ibarra are worried
since three inmates were hospitalized with symptoms of H1N1 influenza, also
known as swine flu.

The detainees were taken to the hospital San Vicente de Paul, one of them is in intensive care.

The commissioner of police of Imbabura, Danilo Espinosa, said that he is talking with members of the Provincial Health Directorate to coordinate actions.

Meanwhile, other inmates demand from the prison authorities for the immediate relocation because they will not get it.

"There are people who have the swine flu, they are already in the hospital and we still stay here standing that disease, "said one of the inmates.

Relatives of suspect infected went to the nursing home for information
and to seek assurances.

So far, a brigade of the Provincial Health Department is overseeing the
internally, while doctors ask for calm.
