In 60 days, four people died of H1N1 virus in Chimborazo and Tungurahua a person. [h=1]At least 39 people die of influenza A(H1N1) in Ecuador[/h] QUITO, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The influenza A virus subtype H1N1 has claimed the lives of at least 39 people in Ecuador since April, announced Public Health Minister, Margarita Guevara, on Wednesday.
He told local newspapers that up till now 239 cases of affected patients have been detected with the virus nationally.
The virus' presence in Ecuador is due to the strong winter period that is sweeping the South American nation, however, there are also reports of the virus in other countries in the region such as Colombia.

Ecuador: Death Toll from Swine Flu Rises to 60

The influenza A virus subtype H1N1 has claimed the lives of at least 60 people in Ecuador since April.

Three Ecuadoreans have died due to the AH1N1 influenza virus, health officials confirmed on Friday, raising the total death count to 60 people.

According to local media reports, the Ecuadorean Ministry of Health (MSP) has confirmed a total of 527 cases of the virus, commonly known as swin flue. The new figures reveal that males comprise 53 percent and women 47 percent of the the reported cases. Health authorities also found that the virus was most common among individuals aged 41-64.
