While the recent stock price of Tekmira may be tracking the Ebola case count, You would still be underwater if you bought the stock on March 10, 2014. The close that day was $30.94. Here is the 6 month chart. It is unlikely that the runup in the first part of 2014 was related to the incipient Ebola outbreak.

Companies With Vaccines
The front-runners with an Ebola vaccine are GlaxoSmithKline plc (ADR)?s (GSK), NewLink Genetics Corp (NLNK), and Johnson & Johnson (JNJ). GSK started early-stage human trials in the US and the UK in September and the first African human trials in Mali began earlier this month. Mali has now become the sixth West African nation to be affected by the outbreak. NewLink also started human trials in Maryland last week.

Other companies whose vaccines will be tested by the WHO include: Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc (INO), NanoViricides Inc (NNVC), and Hemispherx BioPharma, Inc (HEB).

J&J has also stepped up its Ebola vaccine program and announced on Wednesday it will start trials in January, for which 140,000 vaccines have already been produced. The company expects to manufacture 250,000 doses by mid-next year, and over a million by the end of 2015, similar to WHO?s targets.

Hemispherx does not have an ebola vaccine, but 1) a human interferon and 2) a TLR3 agonist (immune modulator) for broad spectrum treatments, currently undergoing testing in 6 BSL4 labs in N America and Europe.
