Sud-Ubangi: the Buruli ulcer epidemic declared in the health zone of Bogose Nubea, more than 450 cases recorded

Monday, May 29, 2023 - 03:11

The Buruli ulcer epidemic was declared in the health zone of Bogose Nubea more than 40 kilometers from the town of Gemena, capital of Sud-Ubangi in the North-West of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The information is confirmed to 7SUR7.CD by the provincial Minister of Health of Sud-Ubangi, doctor Papy Naego Lambo. The latter indicates that more than 450 cases of this disease commonly called "Mbasu" have been identified in this health zone.

“ Up to the 12th epidemiological week, the linear lists of cases collected in Bombura, Bobasonga, Bodulungba, Bobanganza and Bogose Nubea health areas identified 412 cases of Buruli ulcer, ” he told 7SUR7. CD on Saturday May 27th.

The aforementioned ministerial authority adds, however, that the cases identified are treated free of charge at the level of the said health zone and that some patients are already recovering from the disease.

Papy Naego invites the population of the health zone of Bogose Nubea to avoid stagnant water which sometimes, he points out, contains Buruli ulcer germs.

It should be noted that cases similar to Buruli ulcer have been notified in the health zone of Budjala. However, specifies Minister Papy Naego, these probable cases have not been confirmed by the INRB laboratory.
