Kasaï Central: Increase in flu cases observed in the city of Kananga

February 21, 2025

Kananga, February 21, 2025 (ACP).- The increase in influenza cases has been observed since last January in health structures in Kananga, capital of Kasai Central, in the center of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), ACP learned on Friday from a medical source.

"Numerous cases of influenza accompanied by fever, cough, runny nose and headaches have been documented in the various medical facilities in the city of Kananga in recent times," announced Dr. Clément Kanema, a doctor at the Ndesha general referral hospital.

"The treatment is done in an asymptomatic manner by treating coughs, fever and headaches in order to relieve the patient and limit the spread of the virus which is the causal agent of influenza," he added.

The doctor said that humidity, dust caused by climate change and construction work are among the main causes of the disease.

"Sometimes the flu is a seasonal illness ," he said.

In this regard, Dr. Clément Kanema advised wearing appropriate clothing, face masks, washing hands with soap or ashes in addition to the ban on shaking hands when infected with this viral disease.

He, however, lamented the fact that some people suffering from influenza prefer to resort to natural (traditional) treatments in order to alleviate the pain. ACP/ODM
