Three people, including two from the same family, died on Friday March 22, 2024, in the Motobha district in the capital of the Faradje territory, Haut-Uele province.
According to family sources, food poisoning was the cause of their death. Mrs. Matiko, head of household and two daughters Bienvenue and Merci aged 12 and Merci aged 14 lost their lives after consuming laid cassava leaves. Diarrhea, vomiting, and bodily weakness are the symptoms that preceded their death.
Two other children from the family who ate the same food were taken to Faradje General Hospital for necessary treatment.
To remove any suspicion of poisoning or epidemic, the community is asking the authorities of the Faradje health zone to analyze the food consumed.
