Down Time

Hi!

As all of you know this site has been mostly down since noon yesterday.

We have always planned for a prolonged outage and when it became apparent that the situation was not going to resolve quickly we opened our backup site.

We have stayed online during the entire outage at FluTrackers.org and our twitter and facebook accounts also remain functional.

In essence - we maintained our presence and pertinence with the loss of our main site.

For more information on what has been going on please see this thread here.

At this time we are going to continue to use both sites while we see how the situation further develops. If things remain stable we will copy the posts on .org back to this site tomorrow.

Please feel free to post at either site. The server company thinks they may have resolved the problem.

More later.....

Thanks to our team we are remaining pertinent even while our main site has been down 21 of the last 24 hours.

Since we have 2 sites we can still participate on social media during a major outage on our main site FluTrackers.com.

Apparently we reached 9,156 views on twitter even while .com has been mostly down. We are also posting on FluTrackers.org during the outages and I am tweeting those posts.

Thanks for viewing!

We are still getting hit with ips in this range and it triggered an alert from Linode to the FluTrackers email:

This on ProMED:

"I regularly check case counts on FluTrackers.com, but I have not been able to access the site since the start of 2016. According to Michael Coston, Editor of Avian Flu diary [http://afludiary.blogspot.comhttp://www.promedmail.org/post/3907597/], their hosting company - Linode - has been under a massive coordinated cyber attack since early yesterday, and that this is just the latest in a series of attacks which began Christmas day.

This attack affects far more than just FluTrackers.... Linode's data centers in Atlanta, Dallas, Newark and London have all been affected, although only Atlanta remains down. Cyber security presents a serious challenge on many levels. "

hat to Michael Coston for the link.
