Dien Bien stamps out bird flu epidemic
The northwestern province of Dien Bien announced on April 18 that it has eradiate bird flu in the communes of Thanh Luong, Thanh Hung, Thanh Nua, Thanh Yen, and Noong Luong in Dien Bien district.
The disease broke out in Thanh Hung and Noong Luong communes on February 18, then spread to three other communes.
From February 18 to March 19, as many as 14,000 fowls died or were destroyed in the above five communes, and now these localities have passed the 21-day period required to declare themselves free from the H5N1 virus.
Also on April 18, Hanoi?s market management agency confiscated 1,712kg of poultry being transported to the city from the northern province of Quang Ninh. Many of the birds had already died and the city?s veterinarians immediately had them disinfected and destroyed as regulated.
